January 28, 2026:‍ ‍History of the Denver Mint, 1860-1906 by Roger L. Dudley

This talk captured the excitement and frustration associated with the first Denver Mint formed by a Leavenworth, Kansas, company that correctly determined that coining gold was legal. Their product became the preferred method of trade throughout the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Territory. Clark, Gruber & Co.’s building was purchased and made a U.S. Branch Mint after the U.S. Congress passed a law to restrict coining to federal facilities. Though it was called a mint, it did no coining despite the huge amount of gold and silver being mined nearby. Finally, after years of lobbying, in 1895 legislation passed allowing coining again in Denver at a new mint to be constructed in Denver, which took over a decade to finish. This was the first in a two part series. The second is yet to come.

February 25, 2026:‍ ‍Who was Bob? by Bob Lane

Bob Lane introduces you to Who was Bob? or Who is Bob. He is a man of many talents like inventor and scientist Robert Boyle known for “Boyle’s Law.” Robert Hooke, inventor of the Anchor Escapement. Bobs are ranchers, road builders, and miners along with many other talents. Colorado has several remarkable men like Robert Garrison, famous Art Deco sculptor whose work can be seen throughout Denver like at South High School. Bobs include Architect, Astronomer, Chemist, Mathematician, Politician & Statesmen. Please join us for a brief look at some early 1800s entrepreneurs in Colorado.

March 25, 2026:‍ ‍Early Film in the Rockies: Silver Dollar Tabor & the Pikes Peak Motion Picture Company by David Emrich

This talk featured some moving pictures of the early films mentioned. It was an expansion of the Aparil-June 2025 Roundup and a presentation given 26 years ago (by David). The Tabor name is familiar to anyone who has spent any time in Colorado and the story of “Silver Dollar” is as unique as the rest of the family. Possibly it’s more tragic, but just as interesting and worthy of note.

April 22, 2026:‍ ‍Historic Denver Cemeteries & Their Occupants by Jim Cavoto & Mark Barnhouse

Most longtime Denver area residents are familiar with Farimount, Riverside, Mount Olivet, and other historic cemeteries, and know stories of historic figures interred in them. Posse members Mark Barnhouse and Jim Cavoto collaborated on a new book, Historic Cemeteries of Denver, that tells many of these tales. This talk will however focus on some of the more fun and idiosyncratic people whose lives impacted Coloradans in ways large and small.

May 27, 2026: Women’s Political Involvement at the Colorado State Industrial School for Girls by Shaun Boyd

After the 1893 suffrage campaign, some women became board members of the Colorado State Industrial School for Girls. This institution combined reform school, foster care, and prison that trained young, marginalized women to be domestic servants. Late nineteenth-century industrialization had prompted both urban poverty and anxiety about changing gender roles. This led white, upper-class Protestant women to establish industrial schools to house impoverished and vagrant girsl, beginning one of Colorado’s earliest social welfare programs.
